Start building your MVP with expert support

HutZero gives aspiring cyber entrepreneurs the platform they need to evaluate their idea and turn it into a viable business

The programme supports individuals from academia and industry at the very start of their entrepreneurial journey within cyber security, helping them transform their ideas into workable proposals.

HutZero was launched in 2016 by CyLon and the Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT), with funding from the UK Government (DCMS).

The programme ran six times, supporting the creation of more than a dozen new startups.

Are you ready to be the next big thing in cyber security?

HutZero is run by CyLon and the Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT) at Queen’s University Belfast.

HutZero kicks off with an intensive five-day bootcamp at CyLon’s London premises, jam-packed with workshops on technical development, business fundamentals and team building. The curriculum will be delivered by cyber security experts and start-up gurus, giving the guidance you need to get your idea off the ground.

Whether you need help on the technical aspects of your idea, advice on how to set up a business or just general information on what to expect on your entrepreneurial journey, the HutZero network will connect you with experts.

After the London bootcamp, participants will be able to receive guidance and mentoring from HutZero staff and sponsors over a 3 month period. Participants will be encouraged to continue to work on their ideas in their newly-formed teams, and will be invited to reunite for an alumni event at the end of the 3 months to share their successes.

What to expect

Who can apply?
Anyone with an interest in cyber security innovation can apply. We are looking for people who can demonstrate entrepreneurial flair and spirit, and who are committed to exploring a career in cyber security. We welcome applications from individuals at any stage of their career. Please note that HutZero is not for teams, like some other accelerators.

Do I have to be technically trained?
Technical expertise is not a necessity for this programme. Cyber innovation is deeply technical at a product level, but it takes all sorts to run a successful business. In the long run, it will help you to have some technical understanding, but HutZero is about forming teams and crystallising ideas. If you learn fast and are interested in the cyber market, we welcome your application.

Do I have to come to London for stage one?

Yes, and we require you to participate in all five days of bootcamp. Accommodation and travel cost within the UK will be covered by HutZero!

When are the interviews and do I have to attend in person?

Interviews are scheduled one month prior to the start date of the programme. We would prefer to meet you, but are happy to conduct interviews online too.
